Full Circle
Growing up with an Athletic Director for a father, I saw sports as a serious pursuit and art as a source of joy. As my career shifted to art directing, that balance flipped — art became my professional endeavor, and sports remained my playful escape. Now, in retirement, my life revolves around my grandaughter, and art is once again my beloved hobby. In advertising, I aimed to let the creative essence emerge from the brand or product itself, rather than imposing a personal style. Whether through a billboard, TV commercial, or print ad, I wanted the message to resonate on its own merits. I also made it a point to hire diverse talents—people who could bring fresh perspectives and create something uniquely exceptional. With my painting, I hope to evoke a genuine connection and appreciation, but I’m not concerned with creating a signature style. Some pieces may resonate deeply, while others might not. What excites me is the idea that long after I’m gone, a painting of mine might be discovered at a garage sale and find a new home. To me, as long as my art continues to be part of someone’s life, I’ll still be making a difference. My paintings have been accepted at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts where it won Second Prize, and the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts in Carmel by the Sea. |
